To Listen is to pay attention to a sound, for the purpose of the hearing. To hear is to perceive with the ear, the sound that was made. In many, if not all of the Proverbs written in the bible, we see the words "listen" or "hear". That's important because it says to me there are some instructions that I need in order to make wise choices. Wisdom does not just show up, we must ask for it. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5) "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding." Proverbs 4:7
Why is Wisdom so important? Let's keep this question in our hearts as we read each Proverbs this Month. Take lots of notes, and see what you can come up with.
Today, Let's explore Provers 4.
vs 1 "Listen, sons, to a father's discipline, and pay attention so that you may gain understanding."
vs 4 "Keep my commandments and live"
vs 5 "Get wisdom, get understanding, don't forget or turn away from the words from my mouth.
vs 6 "Don't abandon wisdom, and she will watch over you, Love her, and she will guard you.
vs 7 "Wisdom is SUPREME-so get wisdom. And whatever else you get, get understanding.
vs 10 "Listen, my son. Accept my words and you will live many years.
vs 13 "Hold onto Instruction; don't let guard it with your life!"
vs 14 "Keep off the path of the wicked; don't proceed on the way of the evil ones.
vs 20 "My so pay attention to my words; listen closely to my sayings."
vs 23 "Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of your life."
vs 26 "Carefully consider the path of your feet, and alll your ways will be estalished."
vs 27 "Don't turn to the right or to the left, keep your feet away from evil."
